Carlos point of view: I feel as though women are the ones who need to stay home. They need to clean and cook and stay in the boundaries of our tradition. They should not be going out and doing what they please, traveling or marry a man who was no the one to deflower her. The women are here for the men and they should not be trying to take on our roles and duties. I feel as though a woman is here specifically to take care of their children and their husband, and are not capable of anything els. They should not be promiscuous because to me thats filthy.

Gender roles
In America, both men and women have specific roles since early times and present day. Obviously these roles have changed vastly, some so much that the roles switch but its safe to say that both genders have their own standards to meet. Today, A role for men that is specific to gender is their accomplishments in the work-field and using that to provide for their families. This quality used to be more set and stone, like an expectation for the man in the family to make all of the decisions, work hard and pay for everything that their family may need. Now, in 2012 it is not so strict that the man needs to do this because women have made it clear they are capable to do any job a man can do. a specific role for females would defiantly be the one who keeps the household bound. What i mean is be the nurturer of their children, the cleaner, and so on. Back then, The roles of women were strict. To the man, women were to weak to work, or incapable for heavy duty jobs. Today, some men still feel they have the sense of superiority in a relationship or with work force, which has made some women into feminists. Whether it be science, labor, parenting, and protecting both genders are can do it. To this day the roles sometimes switch completely. The man stays home and takes care of his children and cleans and maybe even cooks while the women comes home from a hard days work and relaxes. Roles are as specific as they used to be but there are defiantly expectations. One other topic that should be touched upon, is sexuality. Both of the genders even to this day have a hard time being excepted if they date the same sex, or act like the opposite sex. For example, men who cry, wear tight clothes, or even talk in any way girly are considered gay even if they are not. And then theres women who when they have their hair short, or act boyish in any way gets the same assumption. this falls in the same categories as gender expectations.

My First Impression
After initially over viewing the book, I found it to be really interesting. The cover was one aspect of the book that caught my eye. She seems to be dance, a crucial part of their culture. Then i went to the back and read all of the reviews, all having nothing but wonderful comments. One of my favorite things to do to get a gist of the chapters is glance at the table of contents. All of the chapters have interesting names and it makes me wonder what it will be about. After that I flipped to the Family tree, noticing many family members. This idea makes me think that their will be alot to the book because there are more characters to be talked about. The first chapter is about Yolanda and is told from third person. It immediately incorporates the Garcia Girls culture and gives an amazing visual. All in all, my first impression of the book is a good one, and i hope for that impression to be proved correct. I looked at the family tree, seeing so many relatives and family that could make for a great book.
